Getting to and from Dublin Airport

Getting To and From Dublin Airport

Dublin is one of the most visited cities in the world and one of the most popular locations for city breaks in Europe. The chances are, if you're heading to Ireland for a holiday, you'll fly into Dublin Airport but getting from Dublin Airport to the city itself is not as easy as it is at some airports.

At present Dublin Airport lacks a rail link, whilst there have been longstanding plans to build a metro route from the city centre to the airport, it remains work in progress and therefore you're restricted to travel by road when it comes to getting to and from the airport.

However, for all that it lacks a train line Dublin Airport is accessed by over 700 different buses and coaches every day, so there's no lack of options. The challenge is to find the right one: Airlink and AirCoach are very good, but really if you are going to get the bus, you need to know where you're going to stay first and look for the coach that'll deposit you as near to your hotel as possible. A coach ticket should cost you around 5 or 6 euros, whilst a bus could cost as little as 1.60 euros.

Another alternative is to get a taxi as there are thousands of them around the airport all the time. A taxi from the airport to the north side of the city will cost you between 25 and 30 euros whilst a taxi to the southern side will cost you between 30 and 40. If you do choose to get a taxi you should get a properly printed receipt with all the details on, so if you think you've been overcharged you will be able to make a complaint.

In general, Dublin is quite an expensive place to visit, so the best advice is to book in advance, or to book through a holiday company like Octopus travel (visit their website for Dublin hotels) who are able to offer special discounts. For getting to and from the airport, do a little bit of research on where your hotel is and hop on the appropriate bus, it'll save you loads of money and leave you a bit more cash in hand when it comes to enjoying yourself in one of Europe's most beautiful cities.
